Dental Implants Q & A

Meadowbrook Dental Care

What are dental implants?

Dr. Casañas and Dr. Silfa use dental implants as permanent, fixed replacements for missing teeth. These devices attach to your jawbone and complete the supportive role your tooth once played. The structure and support created by your dental implant restores tooth function, allowing you to speak and chew without issue.

Your dentist may recommend dental implants to replace one or more missing teeth. If you have multiple teeth missing in a row, they may suggest independent implants placed side by side or an implant-supported bridge.

What happens during a dental implant procedure?

When you see Dr. Casañas or Dr. Silfa for dental implants, the procedure takes place over multiple appointments. During an initial consultation, your dentist examines your gums, jaw, and remaining teeth. They may request X-rays to determine if you have enough bone mass for the procedure.

If you’ve had a significant amount of bone loss, you may need a bone grafting treatment before proceeding with dental implants. If you have a strong jawbone, your dentist creates a customized treatment plan. Oral sedation is available to ensure comfortable, pain-free procedures.

During the first procedure in the process of getting dental implants, your dentist anchors titanium screws to your jawbone, replicating the role of your tooth’s roots. This screw remains under your gum’s surface during healing, increasing its bond to your bone and tissues.

Once the screw has bonded, and your jaw has healed, Dr. Casañas or Dr. Silfa attach an artificial tooth to the implant.

In most cases, the whole dental implant process takes 3-5 appointments over a span of 4-12 months, depending on the number of implants and the health of your bones and gums.

What are mini dental implants?

If you already wear dentures, the team at Meadowbrook Dental Center offer mini dental implants (MDIs). These implants are minimally invasive and have a shorter recovery time.

For MDIs, your dentist uses smaller titanium screws, but the procedure still offers long-term denture stabilization. MDIs often require fewer appointments than traditional dental implants.

When missing teeth impact the way you feel about your smile, gain your confidence back with dental implants. Call Meadowbrook Dental Center today to schedule your appointment or book online.
